Product Description & Planting Guide

Delicate cup-shaped blossoms in soft violet tones. These seeds produce plants with fine red stigmas — the source of saffron spice. Flowers appear in autumn, ideal for home gardeners who wish to harvest their own saffron.

  • Sun: Full sun to light afternoon shade.

  • Soil: Well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. Enrich with compost. Dislikes wet, heavy soil.

  • Planting: Plant seeds or corms in late summer to early autumn, approximately 8-10cm deep and 10cm apart.

  • Water: Water sparingly; keep soil moderately moist during growth but allow to dry out when dormant in summer.

  • Climate: Thrives in Mediterranean climates with hot, dry summers and cool winters.

  • Harvest: Pick flowers immediately after they open in autumn. Carefully remove the red stigmas and dry them for use as saffron.

  • Care: Allow leaves to die back naturally after flowering to nourish the corms for next season.
